Welcome to the last year of this textual/visual diary. Exploring words, spaces and aesthetics.

"Egos and Ethos"

"Egos and Ethos"

Some of us stay away from the news because we are fragile. We make no commentary about current events our mental state or anything about the State because we feel helpless. Life's tragedies seem to re-play in a loop like a level we keep on fucking up - and whomever is above, be it God or the Universe grants us another chance and still we fuck it up. We see other humans at skin level, their religious beliefs or their financial value. Nothing more. We cling on to our respective (mother) States to protect us - yet the only protection they seem to give us is that we should carry a sword and shield, to always stay armed and be wary of whomever does not resemble us. Our (mother) States have mobilised us to be little soldiers, carrying out their deeds that have been fostered by fear and bigotry. Fear of love, fear of humanity, fear of compassion. So 'blacks', 'latinos' 'pakis' and 'chinks' must pay a price to be in love with 'whites' and vice-versa or for any to intermarry each other. The 'First World' can rape, plunder and colonise the 'Third', but the 'Third' may never seek refuge from the 'First'.

We have built walls and adorned them with words such as equality, liberty, fraternity; yet our hearts don't know the true meaning of such words. We must all live in stereotypes, watch countless numbers of people die, we must starve our hearts, let our souls die of thirst, so our "Nations" may thrive. No one really knows what thriving means because we are still poor if we carry no humanism within us but our country is bursting with money. We are still poor if we continue to condemn only by words and not by actions to those that do wrong to our brothers and sisters. We are dying of poverty because we have inherently learned to classify people by race, status, religion. So called 'World Leaders' march for Charlie but verbally condemn/incorporate a hashtag for Nigeria and Kenya.  What kind of world do they really lead?

We are still poor if we measure people through a racial superiority or inferiority scale, for not all the West is rich and not all of the rest are poor.

I stay away from the news because I am fragile. But I know behind every riot is a cry for help for equality, for humans to sow seeds of humanism. and perhaps it is riots, war and deaths that will turn the wheels and prompt humans to sympathise with and recognise humans. For the quiet screams are to be unveiled and heard, no longer whispering softly muted by the strong fist of our timidly nurtured  egos and media-saturated ethos.

Humans are Humans. Our breeding ignorance and intolerance is a true disease.
